Gravity Sucks

Performative Lecture 2007

Gravity Sucks is a performative lecture that looks at man’s often tragic lust to escape from the pull of gravity. On one screen the lecture presents video, photographs and found images to tell tales of madcap flying machines, discuss theories of gravity and mourn the state of being a three a dimensional object stuck to a two dimensional surface.

On the second screen the lecture is accompanied by video footage of a chair slowly making its way from the earth to the edge of space. Seen against black space and the curve of the earth, the chair finally succumbs to the pull of gravity and the lecture concludes with the tale of a man who fell to earth.
