Container-ship

In 1997 the project Container-ship set out to explore the internet as a cultural space.

Its aim was: “to commission new work from contemporary artists specifically for the Internet”. The premise of the project was that the internet could be seen as a kind of new space and that it was possible to ask artists, who had not necessarily worked with digital media before, to view this proposal as a site-specific commission. The metaphor employed for the interface was that these artworks would be adrift in the international waters of the world-wide-web sat onboard a hypothetical container-ship.
