This work started with a digital sketch made by Simon Faithfull from the top of St. Mary’s Church tower (situated on Market Square, Cambridge). Drawn in-situ, directly onto an iPad, the drawing was then transferred pixel-by-pixel into the large laser-cut walnut-panel you see here today. 123 Steps Above Cambridge forms part of a wider collection of artworks by Simon Faithfull throughout the hospital – the other works being Viewing Device for the Planet etched into the glass of windows across the hospital and Ouse Navigation in the hospital garden.
