Escape Vehicle no. 2 + 3

Like all works in the Escape Vehicles series no.1 and no.2 are tinged with the melancholy of failure.

Escape Vehicle no.2 (1996, Rack Gallery) consists of a miniature chair made from spent matches, powered by three dead blue bottles that hover above it and are attached with fuse wire. The device invites the viewer to imagine occupancy of the seat while at the same time acknowledging that it is incapable of the pronouncement made within its title.

Escape Vehicle no.3 (1997, Great Escape, Lana House) An empty boiler suit was held upright by fifty silver helium balloons. Fractionally too heavy for a full lift off, the figure drifted through the space propelled by faint currents of air, its legs barely grazing the floor.
